Forming the foundations for a good quality life…
Good quality sleep is the foundation of a good quality life. If a family can eat well, breathe well, have good nutrition, good gut health, good movement and a balanced nervous system they can achieve good quality sleep.
Standard sleep consultants approach sleep from a behaviourism point of view, using strategies and settling to achieving a greater quantity of sleep. This doesn’t address the quality of sleep, which is why a fully holistic wellness approach is needed.
Sleep influences every part of every day life. If sleep is not optimal, you will see struggles with behaviour, appetite, learning, memory, emotional regulation, hormones and more. Improving sleep quality creates a beautiful foundation for a life of optimum wellness!
When sleep isn’t optimal, it can look like…
Catnapping less than 40 minutes
Waking up more frequently than every 2 hours at night
Excessive night waking (more than 2-3 wakes per night depending on age)
Conditional settling (will only sleep a particular way. For example in a car, pram, swing, carrier, breastfeeding)
Taking a long time to settle to sleep or resisting sleep
Sleeping more than would be considered age appropriate
Unable to make age appropriate awake time
Sleep feels like a real struggle or you feel like they aren’t getting quality sleep.
If your little person is consistently doing any of these, there would definitely be some things we can work on to optimise sleep.
